Tajweed and Arabic Language Courses for Sisters
Tajweed and Arabic Language Courses for Sisters
Each course will be 10 weeks in duration and each lesson will last approximately one hour.
Ustadah Nazia will be running a series of short courses in Glasgow for sisters. Currently, it is being proposed that two seperate courses are run. One will focus on the art of proper recitation of the holy Quran, the other will be an Arabic language course. Both courses will have follow-up courses taking students from one level to another.
Theses courses are focussing on quality rather than quantity, therefore class sizes will be small to ensure students fully benefit. Each tajweed class will have approximately 8 people and each Arabic Language class will have approximately 15 people. If there is sufficient demand a number of classes can be run at different times simultaneously.
Confirmed venues so far are Caledonian University and Glasgow University, other venues are also being explored.
Please indicate if you are interested so that multiple classes can be arranged, if there is sufficient demand.
Biography of teacher:
Ustadah Nazia was born and brought up in Lanarkshire, Scotland. After graduating from Glasgow University with a BA Hons in Accountancy, she worked in industry for 2 years. She then left Scotland to study the Arabic language and Islamic Sciences for six years. After studying Arabic and Islamic studies in Wales, she spent four years studying with renowned scholars in the Middle East (Syria and Yemen).
In Syria she graduated from the Prestigious Abu Noor Institute (Damascus) with a diploma in Islamic Studies and gained teaching licenses (ijaza) in various Islamic subjects such as tajweed. She then continued her studies in the illuminated city of Tarim (Yemen) where she both studied and taught at the Dar al-Zahra institute for women.
In Yemen she taught Tajweed, Arabic and the Fiqh (jurisprudence) of Menstruation.
In 2009 she returned to Glasgow, where she now resides with her husband.
Importance of Tajweed:
The word "tajweed" means to improve, make better. Tajweed of the Holy Qur'an is the knowledge and application of the rules of recitation so the reading of the Qur'an is as the Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him, recited.
Tajweed and its application can only be learned with a qualified teacher. The rules themselves can be studied independently, but their correct application can only be done by listening to, reciting to, and being corrected by, a qualified teacher of the Qur'an.
Importance of Quran:
In order to access the Qur’an, you must first know how to read Arabic, the language of divine revelation. Knowledge of Arabic brings Muslims closer to their religion, so that they are able to pray with focus and understand what they are reciting. The first step of this journey is to learn how to read the Arabic script.
