Information on Islam..The stall is located near that of the Palestinian human rights group, just outside BORDERS Buchannan St.  Saturdays 12pm to 5.30pm. Free copy of Quran & Leaflets in English.. All Welcome. Smile

Asalamualikum/Hi

“Islam has no place in Britain” believe it or not this was the first comment we received, just as we were setting up the stall for the very first time! But isn’t that why we set out in the first place? And Daawa is always met with resistance. Alhamdulilah last Saturday was the 2nd and we plan to go on. The stall is located near that of the Palestinian human rights group, just outside BORDERS

“We” are not a group of any kind, just Muslims alhamdulilah, one of us came up with the idea and there it is now..in Buchannan street, loads of people stop at the stall to talk about different topics.. From hijab to Nabi Isa to Allah subhanahu wataala, some of them were extremely happy to be given the chance to read and keep a copy of the Quran for the first time! The leaflets and Quran (in English) are a big help alhamdulilah and May Allah give lots of rewards to Imam Mustaqeem and the organisation that prints them, many prayers to the other brothers who have already chipped in in one way or another. I also picked up 9 Qurans from SUMSA with the permission of Brother Khalid. We have big plans for the future inshaAllah although now we seek to maintain the good presentation, the ideas include a tour to the Masjid; we are keeping the contacts of those who would like to participate in this and we have one name! :D we try to keep everything informal and relaxed and you can come to the stall whenever you wish. we are there on saturdays around noon untill around 5.30pm.

I am very happy to be writing about it here, and I hope that there will be ideas and hands ready to help in every way, I am sure these are the types of things you would like to be involved in. May Allah keep all that we do purely for His Sake and may He include it in our accounts of good deeds. Ameen

i walked past the stall at least 5 times on saturday, but did not stop. It was a bit intimidating as there were 3 males there and no females.

Hi, thanks for your post.

I'm very sorry to hear that, thats a shame. There were sisters there on Saturday and Sunday, although it is possible that when you came past they were away. Please don't be uncomfortable with the brothers - if there isnt a sister there, they can get one for you if you ask. Please don't be put off, and come by again or even better come along to our meeting tonight (wednesday) where there will be plenty of sisters  Smiling

Hi Michelle, thanks for your post. I am really pleased that you like the website and have found it useful We've all been there, having questions but feeling nervous as well.

Our wee group has regular meetings every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm in SUMSA mosque (Strathclyde University Muslim Students Association) which is across the road from the Registry Office in Martha St, round the corner from George Sq. You are invited to come along for a chat and a cup of tea, the meetings are very informal and the guys in the group are very friendly. We are open for anyone who has a sincere intention, whether it is because they are looking at embracing Islam or even if they just want to learn something new.

The majority of mosques will happily have visitors along, although in practical terms some times are better than others, perhaps to ensure that there is someone on hand who speaks good English, or in some cases the mosque might be locked during the day, if no-one is around. The Central Mosque is open all day though, and is a particularly beautiful building with a very tranquil atmosphere inside.

We've had a few queries about Mosque visits, and we're now thinking about organising some guided tours of the Central Mosque, where we could agree a time with the mosque and take any interested parties round the building and explaining the various functions and forms, both in theory or practise. We have helped with these tours before on the mosque open day, which normally falls around September - they are always popular with the guests. I have spoken to the Imams who are keen to have these tours more often. as they want to be open to their neighbours. We'd be delighted to show you, and anyone else who is interested around the mosque at a relaxed pace - would this be helpful for you?

If anyone else who is visiting our website is interested, this invitation is of course extended to you as well, so please give us your thoughts and we can discuss with the mosque and agree mutually suitable dates and times. Laughing

You can let us know by contacting either Sr Sasha or myself - Br AbdulAzeem - by telephone on 07717 809217, or by emailing us directly at info@newtoislam.co.uk. If you leave a voicemail on the phone, we will get back to you quickly as the phone is checked every evening.

Again thanks for your post, and please consider yourself invited to log onto the website and ask any questions you might have. I hope this is helpful, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Hi - thanks for your comment, and welcome to our site.

I can't think of a podcast off the top of my head but I will ask for you and get back to you soon insha'Allah (Godwilling). Are you looking for something that is completely in English, or similar to the one you mention but with a better translation?

Hi, i'm not sure about a podcast but i know this is available on cd and on you tube just google it....

Mufti Menk - Tafseer of the Quraan

He is very very good and english is his first language lol...

If you can't find Mufti menk try Sheikh Riyaad al Haq he is english so you should be able to find something of his.

I also have problems reading the quran somes time the english is a bit to advanced for me. . .  you should have a look for one with foot notes I  found that helps.

Sometimes i just read other book that have parts of the Quraan in them.

I hope this helps a little

Assalamo Aleykum

Everytime I go into the city centre, I make a point of going past the stall, stopping to greet everyone and see what I can pick up from the various literature available.

Although I was born a Muslim I think there is mountain of knowledge out there that I can learn.

I find everyone at the stall very welcoming and friendly.

My daughter loves the biscuits!!

May Allah reward you for your time, effort, patience and perseverance.

It can't be easy to be standing out in the air for upto 5 hours on your feet with the weather getting colder and colder!!!
