About

NTI is a registered charity which aims to help and support New Muslims or converts to Islam, and anyone who has an interest or simply wishes to know more about this beautiful faith.

We are based in and around Glasgow, aiming to serve those in the city and the surrounding areas. We welcome interest from all Muslims who wish to learn the basics in a neutral, friendly informal atmosphere.

We are independent, non-sectarian, and do not promote any particular denomination or 'school of thought'. Our emphasis is upon the Qur'an and example (sunnah) of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and of the early generations of Muslims.

We have regular meetings, activities, classes and intend to begin having practical workshops on Prayer etc, but we also have some fun along the way insha’Allah!

The Edinburgh Muslim Community Association is a non-sectarian grass roots organisation formed in 2004 by a group of committed converts to Islam and Muslim youth of Scotland. Its aims are to establish a link between the Scottish Muslim community and the general public, and to provide practical assistance, care and promote unity within the Muslim community.

Assalamu alaikum

I have been looking online and still confused as too many conflicting answers. Just wanting to know if it is ok to eat products with gelatine?

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Debbie Thanks for your

Hi Debbie

Thanks for your post and welcome to NTI.

With regard to Gelatine, it depends whether the source is halal or not. If the gelatine comes from an animal which has been slaughtered as being halal, then this is ok for us to eat. However if the animal was not slaughtered in a halal way, or is from an animal which is itself not halal (for example, a pig) then this is haraam and we should not consume this as Muslims.

We tend to recommend foodguide.org.uk as a reliable source of food info. They tend to be very thorough and quite clear in their info - they also reply quite quickly to questions in my experience.

Hope this helps - and thanks for your question, please feel free to post any further thoughts
